Private Party & At-Home Catering in the Inland Empire

Birthday parties, anniversaries, graduations, engagement parties, retirement celebrations, baby showers and backyard get-togethers — catered at your home or venue with a chef cooking live in front of your guests.

You should get to enjoy your own party

The reason people hire a private party caterer is almost never the food alone. It is that hosting at home means shopping, prepping, cooking, serving, refilling, and then facing a kitchen full of dishes while your guests say their goodbyes. On The Spot Catering exists to take that entire job off your hands. We arrive early, set up our own equipment, cook live through the event, serve your guests, and leave your kitchen cleaner than we found it.

Chef Alec Ayala cooks on site rather than delivering pans of food prepared hours earlier. For a private party that difference is dramatic: tacos come off the flat top hot, proteins are carved to order, appetizers go out in waves timed to when guests actually arrive rather than sitting out drying under plastic wrap.

We cater private parties across Riverside, Corona, Temecula, Murrieta, Menifee, Moreno Valley, Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga and the surrounding Inland Empire — in backyards, on patios, in clubhouses, rental venues, community rooms and event spaces.

Celebrations we cater

Birthday party catering is our most requested private event, from milestone 21st and 30th celebrations to 50th, 60th and 80th birthdays where extended family fills the yard. Quinceañeras, sweet sixteens, graduation parties and confirmation celebrations follow the same playbook: high-energy formats, generous portions and stations that keep people fed continuously rather than in a single rush.

Anniversary dinners, engagement parties, rehearsal dinners, vow renewals and bridal showers often call for something more composed — passed appetizers, a seated dinner or a multi-course private chef experience. Baby showers and brunch gatherings lean toward daytime menus: egg dishes, breakfast tacos, fresh pastries, fruit, salads and non-alcoholic drink stations.

Retirement parties, housewarmings, holiday dinners, game-day gatherings, family reunions and pool parties round out the calendar. If it is a reason to feed people you like, we have almost certainly catered a version of it.

Popular private party formats

The taco bar is our signature private party format and carries a 50-guest minimum. A chef works a live flat top on site, cooking proteins to order — carne asada, pollo asado, al pastor and vegetarian options — with fresh tortillas, salsas, onions, cilantro, limes and full accompaniments. It feeds a crowd generously, handles a wide range of appetites and dietary needs, and gives the party a natural gathering point.

Appetizer and grazing stations suit cocktail-style parties where nobody sits down. Passed bites, charcuterie and cheese displays, ceviche, sliders, skewers and hot hors d'oeuvres go out in timed waves. Pair these with a drink station — agua frescas, infused waters, mocktails, or full bar service with a licensed bartender.

Buffet catering remains the workhorse for larger family parties: two or three entrées, sides, salads and bread, staffed by attendants who keep the line moving and the food hot. Family-style service places platters on the tables for a warmer, more communal feel.

Private chef dinners are the opposite end of the spectrum — a multi-course plated experience in your own dining room with a chef cooking in your kitchen. Private dining carries a $1,000 minimum, which works out to roughly ten guests at one course or five guests at three courses. It is the right choice for anniversaries, milestone birthdays and intimate celebrations where the meal is the event rather than the backdrop.

What we bring and what we need from you

We arrive with our own cooking equipment, serving equipment, chafing gear, utensils and station setup. Depending on the package we bring plates, flatware, napkins and glassware, or coordinate rentals if you want china and real glass rather than disposables. Tables, linens, bar setups and canopy shade for outdoor service can all be arranged.

From you we need a level setup area of roughly ten by ten feet for the cooking station, reasonable access to bring equipment in and out, and a conversation in advance about power and water. Most backyard setups need very little — we are built to work off our own equipment — but knowing the site in advance prevents surprises on the day.

Timing is planned backward from when you want guests eating. We typically arrive one to two hours before service to set up and prep, cook through the service window, then break down and clean the catering footprint completely. Trash from the catering service leaves with us.

Menus, dietary needs and drinks

Every private party menu is custom. We start with the occasion, the guest count, the time of day, whether guests will be seated, and your budget, then Chef Alec proposes a menu built for that specific gathering. Popular directions include street tacos, tri-tip and carne asada, herb-roasted chicken, pasta, seafood, elevated barbecue, composed salads, seasonal roasted vegetables and fresh salsas and sauces made in-house.

Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and allergy-aware options are planned into the menu rather than improvised at the party. Give us counts and specifics during planning and those guests get a real dish, not a side plate.

Beverage service ranges from simple self-serve drink stations to a fully staffed bar. We can supply mixers, garnishes, ice and glassware while you provide the alcohol, or coordinate a licensed bartender to run service for the duration of your event.

Pricing and booking your private party

Private party catering is quoted per person based on menu, service format, staffing and event length. Taco bars and buffets for larger groups carry the most efficient per-person cost. Passed appetizer service and plated private dining sit higher because they require significantly more labor per guest.

Minimums are straightforward and stated up front: 50 guests for the taco package, $1,000 for private dining. Everything else is quoted to the event. You receive an itemized proposal so you can see exactly what drives the total and adjust knowingly.

Popular Saturdays — especially graduation season in May and June and the holiday stretch in November and December — book weeks to months ahead. Smaller weekday gatherings can often be arranged on shorter notice. Send us your date, guest count and the kind of party you have in mind, and Chef Alec will respond personally within 24 hours.
